Second Annual INSPIRE!africa Fundraiser a huge success!
We are very excited to announce that at the annual INSPIRE!africa fundraiser, held on November 19, 2008 at Webster Galleries in Calgary, we raised $50,000. This represents a 40% increase in the amount donated through our first fundraiser held in early 2007.
We are overwhelmed with this success and we owe it all to you, our supporters for your generosity and commitment to the work we are doing in Rwanda. Thank you!
For those of you who were not able to attend, the event started with African drumming by the Calgary Academy Grade 4 music class. The 12 students did a wonderful job and we thank them for their contribution of music to the event.
Volunteers who traveled to Rwanda this summer made a heartfelt presentation about some of the people and projects we saw this summer and which INSPIRE!africa is supporting. Throughout the evening, we held a very successful silent auction with 50 donated items and we held a “blind” auction of Rwandan crafts.
We also sold copies of the Presents Presents book (a children's book about ethical giving), Arbonne gift candles and crafts in support of Ubuntu Edmonton, another organization supporting widows in Rwanda.
Everyone enjoyed the magnificent appetizers prepared by Manna Catering. The feedback we received was very positive; guests told us how much they enjoyed the evening and appreciated hearing the stories about survivors in Rwanda.
Please keep us in mind for our 3rd Annual Fundraiser planned for November 2009.
